The roots of ABC Polymer Industries go back to 1964, with the founding of Allied Flexible Products. Throughout the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, Allied Flexible Products grew to become an industry leader in the manufacturing of specialty bags used primarily in the coal mining and explosives businesses. These specialty bags consist of circular-woven polypropylene fabric and polyethylene film. While our product lines and manufacturing equipment have continued to evolve over the years, the core manufacturing processes remain largely the same. Several of our employees have worked in this facility for over 30 years and their expertise in all facets of polypropylene extrusion is a major part of our success today.
In 1994, with a new name and under new leadership, Alabama Bag Company continued to build on the solid foundation that was laid during the prior 30 years and the company leveraged its expertise in plastics manufacturing and distribution to expand into other markets. With the addition of Flexible Intermediate Bulk Containers (also known as bulk bags), in 1995, Alabama Bag Company was able to provide a broader line of packaging products to help our expanding customer base meet their product storage and transportation needs.
In 1998, additional extrusion capacity was added and Alabama Bag Company began manufacturing polypropylene fibers for concrete and other construction applications. Over the next 10 years, ABC grew to become the largest privately-held manufacturer of fibers for concrete in North America, supplying not only a full range of polypropylene micro-fibers, but also providing macro fibers, nylon, polyester, acrylic and spandex fibers.
As Alabama Bag Company expanded into different markets, the company name was changed to ABC Polymer Industries in 2004 to more accurately reflect our growing product offerings. Additional machinery was acquired in 2004 to enable ABC Polymer Industries to manufacture fibrillated polypropylene yarn. ABC Polymer fibrillated yarns are used as industrial yarn in a variety of finished products ranging from mattresses to pool covers.
In 2006, two plastics reprocessing lines were added. This machinery enables ABC Polymer to recycle its own scrap, as well as scrap generated from other plastics companies. After being converted back into pellet form, the recycled resin is sold for use in a variety of plastics manufacturing applications.
ABC Polymer Industries continues today to be a leading producer of a wide range of extruded polypropylene products, as well as a distributor of bulk bags and other industrial packaging products.
